Specialist dentists are dentist who have attained further postgraduate training in their field of specialism. Their training pathway has led them to successfully achieve, by examination, specialist status by the General Dental Council. This allows them to name themselves as a specialist and be entered on the General Dental Council Specialist register.

Special interest dentists also have an interest in a particular field and will have gained further postgraduate qualifications but will have not embarked on a specialist training pathway or are currently registered and yet to complete a specialist training pathway and are therefore not able to call themselves specialists or use the specialist title.  Certain fields of dentistry do not have a specialist training pathway, such as dental implantology, and therefore cannot use the Specialist title.    Dentists with a special interest are able to use the special interest title and carry out treatment related to their special interest.

We accept all self and dentist referrals for Specialist Periodontics and Special Interest Dentistry in Endodontics and Restorative disciplines.
