Special Interest Endodontics

Root canal treatment in Derby, East Midlands

On most occasions, a General Dental Practitioner is able to repair damage to a tooth either using a filling or by recreating the missing part of the damaged tooth. However, where the damage has exposed the soft inner “pulp” of the tooth or spread even further to the root canals, the skills of a dentist with a special interest in endodontics are required.

Our resident dentist with a special interest in endodontics looks after all matters concerning the inner parts of the tooth including the blood vessels, nerve tissues and pulp. This extends to treatment of the root canals, the furthest extremities of the tooth buried deeply in the jaw. This work requires specialist knowledge and training gained during a minimum of four years of additional post graduate study.

Practising endodontic diagnosis and treatment involves a high degree of skill and experience and patients are usually referred directly from their General Dental Practitioner (GDP). Many of the infections of the inner part of the tooth are not immediately accompanied by pain and consequently the skill and experience of a dentist with a special interest in endodontics is needed to make an appropriate diagnosis and to plan a comprehensive course of treatment.

At the Darren Bywater Special Interest Referral Centre we have invested in the latest equipment including a high resolution microscope to allow us to diagnose and treat endodontic problems in the most comprehensive way possible.
